I seem to have missed the opportunity yet again to bring in the New Year with a blog post. But I am here now, bringing you something a little more different than usual; a life update!

“You don’t miss something until it’s gone.” That is how the saying goes, and it is so true. Recently with the warmer weather here in Australia and the Christmas and New Year period, there has been a decline in sick children ~ if you don’t already know I am a paediatric registered nurse. While less sick children, is wonderful, it means that I am not needed at work nearly as often; in fact, I have only had one shift since the 22ndof December. While this might seem like a dream to many people, it has been stressful. Fewer shifts mean less money and unfortunately, I am not Peter Pan or Tinkerbell so there are bills to be paid! Additionally, being away from work for so long makes me realise how much I do really love what I do. Helping children heal and grow is an incredible and heart-warming experience, and I sincerely miss their smiles every day.

With all this added time off I have taken the opportunity to head home to see my family more frequently, additionally throwing in a road trip to see some more of the beautiful state I live in. It’s funny because every time I think or talk about travel I often refer to seeing the world, but I live in the beautiful state of Western Australia and have barely seen any of it ~ or at least that I can remember! With that said, my family decided it was time for a bit of a road trip.

Maybe the lack of work, however, has been a blessing in disguise as recently I have been experiencing a few health-related problems. While my chronic illnesses have remained well-managed, I have been experiencing pain that is new for me over the last few weeks. The pain has been consistently there with sharp and occasionally debilitating spikes at times. With the pain, I have felt more fatigued than usual, nauseous, and just generally unwell. Be it known that I have gone to see a general practitioner about it all, and I am now awaiting my ultrasound appointment before I know what is really going on. Due to my history with chronic pain, I have aced the fake it ‘till you make it; life will carry on as always, however, I also know how important health is and how precious life is…

On another note, I have used my spare time off to volunteer with Harvest Rain during the Perth production of Grease the Arena Experience. It was so rewarding to work with such a wonderful team and alongside the children and young adults in a nursing based role. I put my hand up to volunteer my time, thanks to my sister being a dancer in the mass ensemble ~ I am so proud of you for getting up on stage and giving it your all! But next time someone says, “break a leg”don’t take it literally. Okay, let me clarify she didn’t actually break it, one of the ligaments in her ankle has been torn; leaving me as her personal chauffeur for the next few weeks.
Lastly, I just want to give a shout out to my Mama Bear for being nominated Best Book Blogger in the Annual Blogger Bash 2019! I’m so happy for you. You have come so far since the day I showed you how to blog, and let’s be honest you are probably a better blogger than me now! If you have an interest in all things books you can check her blog out here > Book In One Hand Coffee In Another.
Apologies for being away for so long, life happens and things get in the way. If you would like to see more updates similar to this leave a like so I know, and if there is anything else you would like to see from me leave a comment!
